Fly Fishing BasicsSaturday, November 29, 20089:00AM - Noon or later Folsom Lake Activity Center |
|
This class will cover fly fishing equipment - rods, reels, lines, leaders, waders, wading boots, staffs, vests, fly boxes, flies, etc. It will also cover basic fishing know-how and strategy, including dry fly and nymphing techniques, as well as where to fish locally. The all-important subject of reading water will be covered also. It is intended as a basic introduction to the sport of fly fishing, and how to survive the temptation to overspend on equipment. The class will be held on Saturday, November 29th, starting at 9:00AM at Raley's Market Event Center at the corner of Auburn-Folsom Road and Douglas Blvd. Depending on weather, and if enough members request it, we will go to Folsom Lake in the afternoon for some casting and further instruction. This class has not been held for a few years, and it is time to do it again. It is for newer members who want to learn the basics of our sport. It will be taught by Bill Carnazzo, Sturmer White, and Karl Wolff. The purpose of “Fly Fishing Basics” is to provide beginning fly fishers, or those who need some basic assistance, with a comprehensive course on the essentials of fly fishing. This class will be a good companion to the short line nymphing clinic. The class does not cover casting instruction, which is taught in our regular casting classes.
The clinic will cover equipment (what you really do need, and what you don’t); basic entomology (i.e., fish food sources); fly selection; safety in wading and fishing; fishing strategies; and reading water.
