Sturmer
White will be teaching Fly Casting 101 to GBF Members on Sunday, December 17, 2006
at the Gibson Ranch County Park Ponds, Elverta, CA (scroll down to see
directions & map below).
Casting is an art, a science and a
skill, and as such requires practice to
become better. Of course practicing while fishing is not a good idea, but
catching fish is. In this clinic you will learn
the basics that will help you become a better angler and fly-caster if you
practice what you have learned.
Here
is an overview of some things that will be covered. We will start with
the
little things that often count the most such as stance, grip and surroundings.
Following that, we will take a look at the basics of casting such as the roll
cast and the simple forward cast. We will also go over the concepts of loop
size, rod angle, wrist movement, arm movement, body movement, and we will also
talk about rod loading, the pickup, the back cast and timing.

The clinic will
start at 8:30 AM and last till noon. The clinic will take place
at the pond in Gibson Ranch Park in Elverta.
The Club has 8 Sage loaner rods for anyone needing one. Call Larry

Bring a 7 1/2 ft. tapered leader, an old one,
or an inexpensive one.
There will be no
fee for this course which is available to GBF Members only, so if

Avenue north, turn LEFT on Elverta Road and RIGHT on Gibson Ranch Rd. to the
County Park at 8556 Gibson Ranch Park Rd.
OR: From I-5, take SR-70/99 north, exit RIGHT on
Elverta Road east. Then LEFT on Gibson Ranch Rd. to the County Park at
8556 Gibson Ranch Park Rd.
