Fly-Fishing
Awareness Day
at Lake Natoma

August 21, 2004

GBF Coordinator: Joe Aichroth

Granite Bay Flycasters is co-hosting the first annual Fly-fishing Awareness Day on Saturday, August 21st, from 10am to 2pm at beautiful Lake Natoma.  We've joined forces with two other Sacramento-based fly fishing clubs (California Fly Fishers Unlimited [CFFU] and the LadyBugs) to coordinate what should be a fantastic day of fly fishing information, informal instruction, and tackle deals!

The day will start off with a tackle swap meet where everyone is invited to bring their unwanted fly-fishing (and related) equipment to sell or trade.  Great deals on new and used equipment should be available, and all our favorite local fly shops (American Fly Fishing, Fly Fishing Specialties, and Kiene's) will also be there with some store merchandise for sale.  We understand that there will be some great deals on selected items from the shops!

Representatives for many major fly-fishing equipment manufactures will also be present.  Companies like Outcast, Sage, Scott, Patagonia, Abel, Ross, Loomis, and more should be represented.  Here's your chance to try out cutting-edge equipment, on the water, to help you decide what best fits your needs and budget.  Free casting lessons and demonstrations from Dave Shaffer and Jeff Putnam are scheduled, and there will be an on-the-water pontoon/wading safety clinic (bring your own boat for the clinic if you want, but there will be several types of pontoon boats provided by the manufactures for you to try).

The public is invited and the clubs will provide fly tying for the kids and free casting lessons for the adults and older children.

Joe Aichroth is our coordinator for this event and several additional volunteers are needed.  Much like the Salmon Festival, members are needed to help in the kid's fly tying booth - and with informal casting lessons.  Even if you've never tied a fly, in just a few minutes we can show you how to tie the simple Wooly-Bugger that kids love to learn.  It's fast, easy, and fun!  If you can help at this event, please contact Joe, asap!
