Mike Howes
Treasurer
Annual Dinner Chair |
I became a GBF member four years
ago. Then I was an inexperienced fly fisherperson. The
experience members of the club volunteered their time to help me
understand the various techniques of fly fishing; ie.. Knot
tying, rod and line selection, bug knowledge, fly tying, fishing
techniques, casting. I have made my own net and rod.
Friendships have evolved. I am very proud to volunteer for the
club that helped me so much.
PS. I have even
caught fish.

Mike
Kaul
(Dir. thru 2008)
|
Mike Kaul has been a teacher with the
San Juan School District for almost twenty years. He teaches special
needs students at Mesa Verde High School and has been known to take
some of his students out fly fishing from time to time as a reward
for working hard in his classes. This has paid off for both Mike and
the students, most of which have ended up out fishing Mike. This
proves that Mike is an excellent teacher. Specializing in
still-water fly-fishing, Mike has created his own fly patterns that
work well for him on local waters. He also co-teaches our popular
bent wood net building clinic. |

Joe Aichroth
New
Member /Mentor
Coordinator
(Dir. thru 2008) |
Joined the club at the end of 2003 to
learn more about fly fishing in California after moving to this area
from the SF Bay Area. I enjoy attending the various clinics,
fishouts and classes offered by the club to improve my skills.
Participated in several club functions, completed the Golden Trout
program this spring, and chaired the 2005 and 2006 GBF Annual Dinners and fund
raising event. The picture's a brown trout
that I caught in the Trinity River (on a fly) about 3 years ago. It
was a snowy morning and a beautiful drift. |

Pete Peterson
(Dir. thru 2010) |
I have been
fly fishing for over 58 years. I
started with a tubular steel rod
fishing for walleye and pike in Minnesota. I have been a member
of GBF for 14 years. I have been in charge of the Salmon
Festival for 8 of the 10 years it has been in operation. I have
served on the dinner committee five times and have constantly
given fly tying and fly casting lessons. I volunteer for almost
anything that the club does and highly urge new members to help
out. It is the quickest way to meet other members. I have
been a professional nature
photographer for the last 48 years which has taken me to many
locations to fish that a lot of people have never heard of.

Art Hawkins
Past President |
I was introduced to
fly fishing in 1992 and went fishing a couple times a year. In
2002 I realized that I wasn’t doing enough fishing, primarily
because I was retired (had been since 1999) and all my fishing
buddies still worked. So I joined GBF and got involved
quickly. I signed up for numerous clinics, went on lots of
fishouts, and completed the Golden Trout program. I have also given
back to the Club that has provided me with so many benefits; Michael
Kaul and I have been conducting numerous net building clinics for 4
years, I took on the Treasurer’s job for 3 years, I volunteered to
be the Annual Dinner Ticket Sales Coordinator for the past 3 years.
All of this has provided me with the opportunity to meet and really
get to know many of our 300 members. As for my prior life, I
spent 35 years working with numbers – started as an Accountant and
ended as VP Finance. My other interests include woodworking,
bonsai trees and snow skiing. My recommendation to GBF
members: volunteer and get involved, you won’t regret it.
