Mike Howes

President

I became a GBF member seven years ago.  Then I was an inexperienced fly fisherperson.  The experience members of the club volunteered their time to help me understand the various techniques of fly fishing; i.e. Knot tying, rod and line selection, bug knowledge, fly tying, fishing techniques, casting.  I have made my own net and rod.  Friendships have evolved.  I am very proud to volunteer for the club that helped me so much.

PS. I have even caught fish.

Bill Carnazzo
VP Membership

Bill has been fly fishing for nearly 50 years and is a popular fly fishing guide on the Upper Sacramento, McCloud, Rubicon, Lower American, and North Yuba Rivers.  His guiding career began in 1995, and intensified in 2003 when he retired from his position as Chief Assistant City Attorney for the City of Sacramento.  A master fly tyer who ties at many fly fishing shows, Bill has created many "fish catcher" fly designs, including October Caddis imitations such as Bill's Stick Caddis.  When not on the river or at the tie bench, Bill works part time at Kiene's Fly Shop and teaches fly fishing and fly tying at Sierra Community College.  He also gives fly tying classes, presents GBF's Fly of the Month, and coordinates Education programs for Granite Bay Flycasters.

Robin Egan

VP Conservation

I started learning to flyfish in August 2006. I am currently working on my Golden Trout pin, and hope to have the program completed by the end of 2008.  I've taken the net-building class, and gone on several fishouts already in 2008.  I personally participated in the fish rescue efforts following the Prospect Island fish kill last winter (November 2007), which resulted in the rescue of over 1,800 striped bass and over 4,000 bait fish.  This experience really jump started my deeper interest in conservation issues, and since I belonged to GBF I figured this was the best place to start!  Since then, conservation of our local fisheries and the California Delta has become not just an interest, but a new found passion.  I work full-time as a QA Technician and Sales Account Manager at DFI Technologies LLC.  Paul and I have been married for over 16 years and we have an incredible 14 year-old son, Mitchell. Other interests include camping, reading, beading, quilting, crochet, and a good game of double-deck pinochle! I have many things planned with our conservation committee, and hope to get GBF much more involved with "hands-on" conservation projects in the near future.  Stay tuned to the Conservation Corner each month for more details!

Karl Wolff
Secretary

Karl has been a club member for 6 years, has served on the board for 5 years, and led the dinner committee for 2 years.  Karl has been involved with many club fishouts and enjoys working with the membership.  Karl is married to Jessica and they have 2 boys, Alexander and Nicholas.  Karl is a Sr. Account Executive with Ashland Water Technologies.

John Hogg
Treasurer

John has been a member for sixteen years, and has been the Treasurer, a Vice President three times, and a board member. John is a Certified Casting Instructor, and served as the club’s Casting Instructor for nine years.

Directors

Rick Radoff
Past President

Rick has been with the club for nineteen years, and since 1989 has been Vice President twice and President and Past President once. He has been involved with most of the club’s conservation projects and has been the lead co-chair on the Classroom Aquarium Education Program (CAEP) for Salmon and Steelhead Trout from its inception in 1989. Rick’s other interests are flying and bird hunting. Rick is a General Contractor and mostly remodels schools.

Ray Ito
(Dir. thru 2011)

My adventure into fly fishing began in the early 70's.  I joined a local fly fishing club, took casting lessons, and taught myself to tie flies.  A couple of years later, I married and began raising a family.  Due to the demands of my job and family, I put my interest in fly fishing on hold.  Over thirty years later, I rekindled my desire to pursue fly fishing and fly tying.  I wanted to learn as much as I could to make up for all the lost time.  In 2005 after checking GBF’s website, I attended my first GBF meeting and became a member.  Since joining, I have participated in numerous clinics/classes, tied flies for the monthly fly tying contest,  and built a fly rod.  I was semi-retired until June 2007 when I retired after serving 36 years in state law enforcement.  My wife, Pearl, and I reside in Cameron Park.  We have two grown sons and four grandsons.

Larry Goodell

(Dir. thru 2011)

I have been a fisherman most of my life, as far back as I can remember.  I retired from the San Bruno Fire Dept. at the end of 2001. Shortly thereafter we moved from San Bruno to the Grass Valley area. I joined GBF in March of 2003.  I am a founding member of the Auburn Flycasters and a Past President.  I'm also a board member of the California Inland Fisheries Foundation (Project Kokanee) and love to catch these land-locked salmon. I have also coordinated GBF's Golden Trout Program for the past several years.

Jack Ramos

(Dir. thru 2010)

In 1999 I retired and moved to Sun City Roseville. I joined GBF in 2000. I started fly fishing and tying in the mid-sixties, but raising three boys did not give me much time to fish. Once I retired and joined GBF, with the help of Sturmer White (casting), Bill Carnazzo, Pete Peterson and Jim Holmes (fly tying), I have enjoyed the sport even more. I am in my second term on the board and I was also editor of the Leader newsletter.

Pete Peterson
(Dir. thru 2010)

I have been fly fishing for over 58 years.  I started with a tubular steel rod fishing for walleye and pike in Minnesota.  I have been a member of GBF for 14 years.  I have been in charge of the Salmon Festival for 8 of the 10 years it has been in operation.  I have served on the dinner committee five times and have constantly given fly tying and fly casting lessons.  I volunteer for almost anything that the club does and highly urge new members to help out.  It is the quickest way to meet other members.  I have been  a professional nature photographer for the last 48 years which has taken me to many locations to fish that a lot of people have never heard of.

Jerry Devlin

(Dir. thru 2009)

I joined the club last year after retiring and relocating from Chicago. Although I live in Auburn I was attracted to GBF by the people I met and the variety of opportunities to fish and learn more about our chosen sport. Prior to retiring I was a board member and VP of Sales for US Robotics, Apple Computer and Xerox Corp.

Ron English

(Dir. thru 2009)

Ron is a twenty year club member and served as Treasurer once and once as a board member. Ron has also worked on most of the club’s conservation projects through the years. Ron has been Programs chair and worked on many dinner committees. Ron is always there when something needs to get done, and has donated materials and time and equipment to various club projects, including the clubhouse. Ron is the other hard working half of R T English Construction Inc.

Tom Pettey
(Member at Large

thru 2009)

After thirty five years of work I began to wonder if there was something more than those seemingly endless work weeks.  Then I discovered fly-fishing about four years ago, quickly abandoned work, and have yet to meet a fish I didn’t like!  Along the way I have benefited greatly from all of the good people within GBF and from the exceptional programs offered throughout the year.  I have also developed a growing awareness that fish and their habitat are a precious resource to enjoy and to carefully preserve.
