This year will be even better than last year. Just ask anyone who attended the events last year, what fun we had? Every year we learn and improve. If you have any ideas for better games, please let us know. Call Dave Thompson or Dan Lovesee

It’s getting to be that time to make the sign “Gone Fishing” so mark your calendar for June 12 – 15  for the GBF Annual Picnic & One-Fly Contest.  Things get started on Thursday, or whatever day you want to arrive, and ends on Sunday.  GBF will provide free camping in a private group site at the Bear Valley Campground. Tony Hamamoto is once again on the grill for the best ribs ever.  The Fourth Annual ONE-FLY CONTEST is on Saturday morning followed by the Third Annual NOT SO SPECIAL OLYMPICS and then Tony's Famous Ribs BBQ Dinner!

WHEN – June 12 – 15, 2008

WHERE – The Bear Valley Group Campground is only an hour’s drive from Granite Bay (see map)

  • Take Interstate 80 towards Reno

  • Exit Highway 20 west toward Grass Valley

  • Turn Right on Bowman Lake Road

  • PG&E’s Bear Valley Group Campground is on the left before you cross Bear River

EVENTS:

Thursday – arrive and set up camp, open a soda, and kick back. Or go fish!

Friday – Go Fish on Fuller Lake, Rucker Lake, Bowman Lake, Spalding Lake, Truckee River, Upper American River, or the Bear River (try the area GBF restored).  This river requires full camouflage, stealth and a one cast only technique for very shy brown trout.

Friday Night – we start a fire and pass the “lying stick” for those who want to tell fish stories.

Saturday 9:00AM to Noon the One-Fly Tournament on Fuller Lake

This is a chance to put your skills into a friendly competition for bragging rights and some great prizes. In categories of most fish, large fish, small fish, first to loose their fly, etc. After the Tournament, the barbeques will be fired up - Thank you Chef Tony and the assistant chefs! While the ribs are cooking, we will hold the 4th Annual Frank Massey Memorial Not So Special Olympics.  This is open to all; it's like picnic games with fly fishing skills. Thank you Dave and Dan for your willingness to plan fun games for everyone.

Sunday – Pack up and go fish!

RSVP AND QUESTIONS: Let us know via email if you’re going to be there; how many are in your group; and what days you’ll attend. We need the headcount for food. You can email us with any questions. (However, no questions about contest rules will be answered, as we will make them up as we go.)  At the April meeting we will have signup sheets for attendees, volunteers, and participants.  Email Michael Powers (powers@cwnet.com)

THE RULES AND OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF:

1. Bring the family
2. Have a great time
3. GBF will provide the main dish…Ribs, chicken, etc. on Saturday night.
If every one brings a side dish or dessert, what a feast we will have..  Other than that, BRING YOUR OWN FOOD, DRINKS AND UTENSILS, ETC.

a. Blind draw two-person teams.
b. Two Handed/Two Fisted Horseshoes
