The big event on our agenda in March is our Annual Dinner on March 27th. Dennis Baker is bringing a fresh new look to the dinner with his innovative ideas and moxie for getting it done. The dinner is our one big social event and fund raiser event of the year. Fish stories abound and spouses are quickly engrossed in conversations. The event is casual attire, many wear blue jeans. Live auction items include a “Family Trust Preparation" ($1400 value), Shotgun lessons ($400 value) and a day on the Sacramento River (Redding) with Chris Parsons ($400 value), and many other fantastic items for both flyfishing and the non-flyfisher persons. This year we will be accepting VISA or MasterCard. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, you still have time. Tickets will be on sale at the March General Meeting. See you at the dinner!
The Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers (NCCFFF) is holding their Hall of Fame Dinner on March 20, 2010. Mike Michalak (owner of The Fly Shop) will be inducted into the NCCFFF Fly Fishing Hall of Fame. The GBF message board has all the details about the dinner.
I am off for the trip of a life time. I am going to the Amazon to fly fish for Peacock Bass. I’m very excited about the trip and look forward to sharing my pictures with anyone wanting to see them. In fact, even if they don’t want to see them, I will show them anyway!
Better know a member: This month we recognize another outstanding GBF member: Art Hawkins. Art is a past GBF President and past Treasurer. Fly fishing is not his only passion; he has a wood-work shop in his home that a professional would kill for. Art took on a project to remodel his kitchen cabinets from scratch. Being a person of limited skills (that is me I am talking about), I am awed by Art’s talent. He accomplished his remodel and is still married! Art is also running GBF's net building clinics, so if you haven’t built a net yet, Art is the man to see.
I write this message in early February just before leaving for my trip to the Amazon, so I shall close with
