May’s committee was canceled due to a scheduling conflict that came up. I apologize again for those who did not receive my e-mail message regarding this cancellation. If you do not have access to e-mail, please let me know, so I know to call you for any urgent issues.STATUS REPORT on current legislation AB1253 was heard in committee April 28, 2009. This bill passed and now asks for an independent scientific panel to review studies on the, "effects of predation on species listed as threatened or endangered under the state or federal endangered species acts, and to determine whether predator species are adversely affecting, at a population level, native salmonids or other indigenous pelagic species in the Delta," The bill states the panel shall also include, "a review of existing studies on fish salvage methods and other mitigation protocols at state and federal pumping facilities and recommendations for changes in methodologies to improve survival." AB1365, introduced 2/27/09, amended in assembly 4/13/09: Located in Water, Parks & Wildlife Assembly, further hearing to be set.
1. This bill would make an unspecified appropriation from an unspecified source to the department for the purposes of acquiring land or other property interests in certain properties in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and to initiate and implement improvements on those properties for
the purposes of flood control, habitat enhancement, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, recreation, and other visions for a sustainable Delta.
2. The bill would require the Department of Water Resources and the Department of Fish and Game, in consultation with the State Air Resources Control Board, to prepare and submit to the Governor and the Legislature a report on the proposed implementation of the bill.
3. The bill would prohibit the moneys appropriated in the bill from being expended until the report is submitted.

SB12, introduced 12/01/08. amended in senate 5/05/09: Located in the Senate Appropriations Committee, to be heard 5/18/09.
1. The bill would authorize the council to impose a per-acre-foot feet on water diversions within the Delta watershed and a fee on any water conveyed through or around the Delta.

The next conservation committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00 PM at the Round Table Pizza in Granite Bay (Douglas Blvd at Auburn Folsom Rd). Kevin Mather and Dan Brosier, President and VP of Sac-Sierra Trout Unlimited respectively, will be in attendance to share with us some hands-on projects we may be able to participate in with them.
