1.  Sagehen Creek – Friday - Sunday, Sept. 15-17 - Sign up now!

Kids are Free!  As of this writing there is still space available for the Sagehen Creek entomology and ecology program scheduled for September 15, 16 and 17.  We have invited two exciting speakers for the Friday and Saturday evening programs, but if you can’t come for the whole weekend, how about getting up early on Saturday and joining us for breakfast or the entomology program that will begin at 9:00 a.m.?  Call John Carroz at 916 783 0802 to sign up and to see if there is still space available.

The UC Berkeley Sagehen Field Station is located about eight miles north of Truckee on Hwy 89, so it is only about 2 hours away from Sacramento.  Map and directions.

2.   Secret Ravine – Saturday, Sept. 9 - Volunteers needed!

Volunteers are needed to restore the riparian corridor along Secret Ravine near Sutter

Hospital in Roseville on Saturday, September 9th.  We will start about 9:00 am and go for several hours.  Tasks will include trash pick up, spreading seed and straw and some shovel work to smooth ground and build water bars on dirt roads.  Secret Ravine has salmon runs (yes, right in Roseville) and is an important local stream.  Please E-mail Gregg Bates at dcc@surewest.net to express your interest and also let Heath Wakelee, 916 870 5253 (GBFConservation@cs.com) know if you plan on participating.  We need to turn out about 20 people for this ½ work day, so please plan on helping and bring those young people with you.

3.   Volunteer

Have you volunteered at least four (4) hours this year to help maintain, preserve, and protect our sport?  Four hours per year - that is all the club requests and we hope that every member can find some way to give back to the sport they enjoy.  One way is to start carrying a plastic bag with you when you are out fishing and pick up some of that trash along the stream.  Statistics show that a clean area is less likely to be “trashed” than an area that is already cluttered with refuse.
