There're only a few slots still open for this terrific annual GBF event, so call now and join us for one or both days of this hands-on, in-depth examination of trout streams and the insects that inhabit them. Please print and sign the Sagehen WAIVER (click for PDF download) or sign it at check-in.

This year’s line-up of presentations is all new, so if you’ve attended previously, please come again!  Here's the all new 2006 agenda:

Friday, September 15, 2006

Arrive at UC Sagehen Creek Research Station bunkhouses (or the Sagehen campground).

Dinner will be at the Sagehen Field Station dining hall.

Evening Program: “Healthy & Unhealthy Trout Streams of the Lake Tahoe Region” by the UC Field Station staff.  This program examines how and why these streams are different, how you can tell them apart, and what you can do to help preserve trout streams for future generations.

Saturday, September 16, 2006

Breakfast at Sagehen Field Station.

Morning Program:  Entomology presentation: “The Insects That Trout Eat” by Terry Eggleston, former GBF President.  Afterwards, we’ll take a field trip to capture, view, and identify invertebrates in Sagehen creek.  Then a short walk back to the Field Station for lunch.

Afternoon Program:  In the station’s famous underground streamside observation chamber we’ll witness and study how trout actually respond to various natural and artificial offerings presented from above.  Afterwards, participants can opt to receive personalized fly-casting instruction or go fly fishing in an adjacent section of Sagehen Creek – or both!

Dinner will be at the Sagehen Field Station.

Evening Program:  “How To Identify And Maintain a Healthy Watershed” by Travis Coley, Fisheries Program Manager, U.S. Forest Service.

Sunday September4 17, 2006

Breakfast at Sagehen Field Station.

Depart Sagehen Field Station to fish Sagehen Creek, the Little Truckee, or the Truckee River, surrounding lakes, and/or return home.

IMPORTANT…  To attend, call John Carroz at 916/783-0802 by August 30th.  The cost is $44 for one night’s lodging or $60 for both nights.  Most meals are included.  Young adults 7 years and older are welcome and there is no charge for those 16 years and younger. Register early, the facility only holds 25 people, plus 5 instructors.

The field station has several bunkhouses reserved for us, and the nearby Sagehen campground is also available if you prefer a quieter location that guarantees you won't have someone snoring in the bunk bed next to, above or below you, right Heath?  John will fill you in on the arrangements, and he plans to reserve a separate bunkhouse for the men, one for the women, and one for the presenters.  The field station has nice facilities, including hot showers, kitchen, dining room and classroom. The campground is about a 10 minute walk, half a mile upstream from the field station on a separate, gated road.  Campers will be charged the same activity fee, which will include all the presentations, field study, meals and access to the showers. Check out the Sagehen website by clicking here, and be sure not to miss their live Fish-Cam link at the top of their home page!  Here's a link to their Waiver, Directions and map in PDF format.
