Support SB 904 (Chesbro)

Wild and Scenic Rivers Act

March 9, 2004

SB 904 clarifies the California Wild & Scenic Rivers Act to ensure that Special Treatment Areas under the California Forest Practice Rules are applied to recreational rivers.  Current law requires Timber Harvest Plans for logging on privately owned commercial timberlands to apply a 200 foot-wide Special Treatment Area to protect visual quality along designated Wild & Scenic rivers.  The California Divison of Forestry recently interpreted the Act as not applying to a recreational segment of the South Yuba River, even though the term "wild and scenic" is used generically throughout the Act and the regulations as encompassing all such designated rivers. This simple amendment will greatly enhance state protection of California's designated river system.

To get more information, you can visit the Official California Legislative Information website - Bill Information on SB 904 from the 2004 session. This page will return all of the related documentation of this bill, include the actual proposed SB 904.

We are asking all interested parties to send letters (see template) in support of SB 904.

Thank you.
