This fish-out is primarily for bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. The lake is over populated so the fish tend to run on the small size. However, if you can get your fly to the bottom of the lake, there are quite a few 3-4 pound bass. These bass are not particular as to what fly you use. Fatal Attractions, Clouser’s and Wooly Buggers work the best with a 6-7 wt. rod. However, a 5 or 8 wt. would be fine.

There are no signs to tell you where Rucker Lake is. The turn off to Rucker is approximately 3/4 of a mile past the second entrance to Fuller Lake. There is a street sign that says Leahona, (spelling may be off but it is close). To verify that you are on the right track, there is a sign on the left side of the road that says Hwy. 20 - 4 miles. Turn right on Leahona until you come to a "Y" in the road (approx. 1/2 mile). Take the right fork past the storage tanks and the road will wind down to the parking lot. The right fork is not hard to find if you look for a large tree in the middle of the "Y". If the campground by the lake is not crowded, you can drive down and drop off your gear. Then drive back to the parking lot.

If you have never fished for bass, this is the place to start. It is not uncommon to catch 30-40 bass by lunchtime.
