Truckee River Tuesday, September 7, 2004

The Truckee River fishout will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2004. This local river holds some very big fish. Most anglers can be in the water on the Truckee within an hour and a half from home. The river is moody, and can be tricky to fish. A wading staff is essential. A five weight rod and floating line will do the job. I will have more information on flies and other details as the outing approaches. I am hoping that the Fall bite will have begun by September 7th, but one never knows. I’ll be checking with the local fly shops in Truckee, and with some friends in the area, to get the most recent information. This trip is not limited in any way. Degree of angling skill is not an issue, since I and others will be available to provide instruction on technique, reading water, and other matters. We will be doing both nymph fishing and dry fly fishing, so be sure to have split shot (BB size), floatant, and fly-drying dessicant powder. Nine to twelve foot leaders will be needed, tapered down to 4x or 5x. We will need 6x tippet material for the dry fly action. Be sure to sign up and learn about this local treasure. Some may want to spend part of the day on the Little Truckee, depending on conditions. Bring a good lunch and plenty of water. Call me or send me an email if you have questions, or can’t make the August meeting to sign up. I’ll be pounding the Silver Salmon and Rainbows in Alaska at the time of the August meeting, so…see ya on the creek. |
