GBF will have our first fish out of 2005 on January 26. We will be going to Lake Amador. Amador usually fishes well this time of year as those of you who have been there in the past can verify. Trout weighing five pounds are not unusual. In the past the most popular flies have been a black leach pattern or a black or dark green wooly bugger. A 5-weight rod with floating line and a long leader usually works well.  The trout feed near the surface this time of year, however this could change, so I would bring an intermediate and a sinking line also. Car-pooling is the way to go because they charge 8 dollars a car to park and about 9 dollars to fish from a float tube or pontoon boat. You can get a good breakfast there; the grill opens at 8:00 AM. The Thomas Brothers Guide will give you directions or if you have any questions you can reach me at: [916] 434-1951 or

richarddavis311@sbcglobal.net

P.S.  I just got off the phone with Lake Amador. The girl who answered said fishing was good, they continue weekly plants. The weather was cold and foggy, fish are hitting near the surface on white, olive, and black wooly buggers.  The water is cloudy… Not real muddy). The grille opens at 8:00 AM on Wednesdays, so if you plan to have breakfast figure 8:00 AM.

The fees are:   $8.00 a car

                       $7.00 to fish ($6.00 if you’re over age 55)

$2.00 more for a float tube

$2.00 discount if you say you’re with Granite Bay Flycasters!

See you there!
