Hello
GBF,
Dave Lentz of the California Department of Fish and Game
is looking for anglers who will volunteer to participate in the final phase
of their Cal Fed Study that, hopefully, will find a safe and
effective way to clean waders, boots and angling equipment after
wading in areas where the New Zealand Mud Snail is present.
Three
different chemicals will be applied using three different delivery systems.
It is hoped that a way has been found that will be 100%
effective in killing the snail in field situations. These
chemicals have been determined to be safe on equipment and the environment.
CDF&G
met yesterday at Putah Creek with invasive species biologist Ken Davis. Ken is a member of our Club and has been working
on Putah Creek for the past year and a half on the NZMS
problem. During the tour, Ken showed Fish and Game some
of the most heavily infested sections of the Creek.
A tentative
date was set for the study of March 5th and 6th, (Sat &
Sun). GBF Volunteers will be asked to wade and fish in the infested areas,
and then have their waders and boots cleaned using one of the three
methods.
I signed
up ten members at last Thursday's meeting, but we need more members who
will volunteer for these dates.
Please
contact me by e-mail or telephone if you wish to participate in this
most important study.
