It's
time to start planning for the annual GBF Upper Sac Fishout. This year’s event is being held
from Thursday, October 20th through Sunday the 23rd. Please note this is a change from the
previous announced date due to another club having scheduled the same date
we announced. Several people have
already signed up, but there is plenty of room for more. One year there were over 40 members
attending this fun filled outing. It
is advisable to make your arrangements early. The Cave Springs Motel, Acorn
Motel and Railroad Motel, all in Dunsmuir
are convenient. Most rooms have 2 or
3 beds, so it is possible to double up with someone to save on gas and the
hotel bill.
At
that time of year we can expect warm or cool weather and maybe even rain,
so be prepared. We'll have more information later. This has always been one of the Club's
premier fishouts. If you have any
questions, contact Joe Aichroth at (916) 772-417
or email at jaich@surewest.net .
UPDATES 9/2/05:
One of the premier GBF outings, the
Upper Sac Fishout is shaping up to be a well-attended affair. To make the weekend more informative and
enjoyable, we’re planning on several
events which have always been well received:
· Thursday dinner at Gary’s Pizza Factory, 5804 Dunsmuir Ave. in downtown
Dunsmuir at 8:30pm
· Friday dinner at Casa Ramos, 1136 Mt. Shasta
Blvd. in Mt. Shasta City at 8:30pm
· Short-Line Nymphing
Clinic on Saturday 8:00am to be
led by Bill Carnarzzo at the City Park, upper parking lot. The cost
is $20 to be paid in advance, a sign up sheet will be at the GBF
general club meetings
· Saturday dinner at Mike and Tony’s, 501 Mt. Shasta Blvd.
in Mt. Shasta City
also at 8:30pm
Directions
to Mt. Shasta
dinner restaurants: Go North on I-5 and take exit
737 and continue north to Mt.
Shasta.
Casa Ramos is on the right at number 1136 and Mike and Tony’s is at
number 501 on the left.
Be prepared for rain and/or chilly weather; winter comes early in Northern California!
Since we'll be on the
river and not convenient to restaurants, you might want to bring something
to make yourself a snack and drink for during the day. If you happen
to be by the Castle Crags exit, there’s a deli on the west side (Andretti's) that sells a great burrito. They heat them for you and are available
in several combinations, about $3.50.
We will make an effort to pair newer fishers with experienced Upper Sac
anglers at the Friday morning meeting.
Cave Springs has been the primary place most members
have stayed due to their location and reasonable price. They have motel rooms, cabins and RV
hookups. Using Cave Springs keeps
the group together and makes communication and linking up with others much
easier. (See www.dunsmuir.com for additional lodging
and info.)
