LUNCH

Red Lake lies near the top of Kit Carson Pass on Highway 88, about 35 minutes from Lake Tahoe. The elevation is about 8,200 feet. It was created in 1924 for irrigating livestock in Nevada. Today it is owned by the California Department of Fish & Game. The cool water supports a good population of Brook and Lahontan Cutthroat Trout.

Red Lake is a beautiful Alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It is one of the more picturesque lakes in the area and it supports some wonderful wild life. The Bald Eagle enjoys the area and can be seen throughout the summer and fall. Deer, Bear, Osprey, Duck, Geese, and many more wonderful, wild animals, inhabit the area.

The lake is best fished from a float tube where you can get into some of the more remote areas of the lake and fish the lies where the fresh springs come into the lake. Woolly buggers (size 14 in olive and black), AP nymphs, damsel nymphs, and a number of other subsurface flies work well here. The West end of the lake is the most productive for fly fishermen.

Tony and Nancy will meet everyone at the boat ramp at 9:00 AM. Bring your own food and drink (Tony wants to fish this time…not cook).
