Fish: Native Browns

Fishing strategy: Swinging fly, indicator, pocket water, and dry-fly

Oregon High desert tail water river runs off color.  Small nymphs, dries, and wet fly presentations work at times.  Big browns hide in buckets and lie in lava troughs, but will chase bugs that are presented properly.  Steve provides daily on the river 'bug hatch' information (after breakfast) that suggests the type of flies and presentation that should work for that day.

The High Plains Drifters Guide Service will host the 2010 GBF OWYHEE RIVER BROWN TROUT OUTING GROUP PACKAGE, September 28 - October 1, 2010. Steve Cooper, Owner/Operator, offers this group package tailored to meet the needs of GBF. The package includes stream-side camping, all meals, soft drinks and water, and group guide service. Optional tents & cots are available if you plan to fly in.

Steve plans to appear at a GBF Fly Tying Jam sometime before the fishout to show us how to tie some of his favorite flies for the Owyhee River.

Steve will provide daily on-stream seminars geared to the group after breakfast.  Topics may include up to date hatch information, fly selection, and instruction on the most productive techniques.  We are also available throughout the day to work with individuals and small groups.  The Owyhee offers only unimproved camping. There are port-a-potties.  No lodges here.  Our base camp will accommodate tents, RVs and campers.  The base camp serves as an outdoor dining hall and social arena.

Steve is offering full or partial service. Full service charge is $75 per person per day and includes camping sites, meals, and group guide service. Members can also arrange for just part of the package with Steve for campsite tent, meals, and/or guide service. We will need to finalize your individual preferences, days of attendance, and travel plans in advance so Steve can plan and procure adequate food and stake out the campsites.

The $75 per day per angler cost is a real bargain!  If you have questions, give Bill a call.  Hope to see you on the river!

John Peterson says: "...this fishery was not crowded, very accessible, able to camp right on the river, and the fishing was incredible!! The river offered water for every type of fishing from swinging fly to indicator, pocket water, and dry-fly."

Bill King will report current sign-ups and info on the GBF message board as the dates approach:
