GBF Speaker

Programs

Each month we feature a guest speaker at our general club meeting, which is held the 2nd Thursday of the month.  Before the meetings begin, members have various options, such as the opportunity to observe a fly tying demonstration, borrow or return an item to the library, sign up for a club fishout or other activity, enter a fly in the fly-tying contest, and just converse with other members to see who has the biggest fishing yarn.

Then the meeting is called to order and we introduce guests and open the floor to members' fishing reports.  Any current business, announcements, and committee reports are then presented.  Following a brief break for refreshments (which the club provides), the evening's guest speaker will present his or her topic, which is usually accompanied with a slide show.

The program (topic) is typically related to some aspect of fly fishing or conservation in Northern California - and sometimes beyond.  Among our previous speakers were fly fishermen Seth Norman,  Andy Burk, Will Blair, Ron Rabun, Bill Carnazzo, Jay Fair, Dan Blanton, and Mike Mercer.

Topics covered have ranged from Tahoe-area conservation efforts and The Friends of the Trinity, to fishing the North Yuba and tributaries, Stripers on the American & O'Neal Forebay, as well as exotic-water fishing in Mexico, Christmas Island, New Zealand, Belize, Alaska, Kamchatka Peninsula, Labrador, Patagonia Chile, and the Amazon!
